Over the past decade, Pakistan has emerged as a key exporter of fruits and vegetables, with its produce reaching numerous international markets. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has consistently been a major destination, particularly for mangoes, dates, and citrus fruits, with mango exports alone generating millions in revenue annually. Pakistani dates have also gained significant traction in the UAE, contributing to the country’s strong demand for fresh and dried fruits. Similarly, the United Kingdom (UK) has remained a vital market, importing premium-quality Pakistani mangoes, pomegranates, and citrus fruits, along with vegetables such as okra and chilies. The UK’s stringent quality standards have led exporters to adopt better post-harvest and packaging practices, further enhancing the reputation of Pakistani produce in Europe.
Another crucial market has been Afghanistan, which imports a large volume of Pakistani onions, potatoes, and tomatoes due to geographical proximity and historical trade ties. Although trade fluctuations have occurred due to political and economic challenges, Afghanistan remains a top destination for Pakistani fresh vegetables. Additionally, China has emerged as a strong trading partner, particularly for vegetables, dry fruits, and citrus, with exports valued at over $1 million in 2023. The opening of new trade corridors and agreements under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has further strengthened agricultural exports to China.
The Middle Eastern market, particularly Saudi Arabia, has also been a significant importer of Pakistani fruits and vegetables, especially dates, kinnows, and melons. Saudi Arabia’s demand for high-quality pitted fruits and vegetables has grown, with Pakistani produce gaining preference due to its affordability and freshness. In addition to these top destinations, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and European countries such as Germany and the Netherlands have also increased their imports of Pakistani agricultural products in recent years. The growing demand for organic and naturally ripened fruits has positioned Pakistan as a reliable supplier in these regions. With increasing global demand, the country continues to invest in better storage, processing, and export strategies to further strengthen its position in the international fruit and vegetable market.
